Individualized Educational Program or Privately Developed Plans:

An Individualized Education Program (IEP) is a federally binding document outlining the agreed-upon services and support a student requires in order to reach their educational potential within a given school year. It is developed collaboratively between parents and a team of specialists in the public school system. IEPs are reviewed and rewritten annually, with each new plan required to be finalized at least 24 hours before the previous one expires.
For homeschooling families, some states also use the term “IEP” to describe the document that governs progress monitoring for students with special needs. However, the composition of the team responsible for developing the plan varies by state.
Throughout my career, I have written numerous IEPs, both as a public school teacher and as an advocate for homeschooling families. Even in the public school setting, I preferred to meet with parents before the formal team meeting to align on goals and discuss the services they hoped the school would recommend for their child. This collaborative approach ensures that the IEP truly reflects the student’s needs and the family’s priorities.
I would be honored to serve as part of your IEP team (or Oregon PDP team) and support you in this important process.
When you choose to work with me, the most valuable thing you’re investing in is my depth of knowledge and experience with a wide variety of students across different ages and abilities. You’re getting my full attention, my encouragement, and my ability to see the nuances in a child’s learning journey. Over the years, I’ve observed countless students and have developed a keen eye for the details that shape their growth. I use this insight to inform planning and help move them forward in a way that fits their unique path.
For homeschooling families, navigating the legal system can feel overwhelming. I’m happy to guide you through the process and can even draft your notification letters, ensuring compliance with state requirements.
